  • When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. When she decides to have him committed, problems arise, identities are mistaken, and lunacy avails. Only in the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn’t so bad after all!

    After a grueling audition process, the cast is set, and the show is about ready to begin.  The cast of Harvey has been working hard and we’re sure this is a show you won’t want to miss.  Hale favorite’s Matthew Cary (last seen in Here Lies Jeremy Troy) leads the cast as Elwood P. Dowd, with Barbara McGrath (Last seen in Over the River and Through the Woods) as his sister who is determined to get him committed.

    Character Name: Director/Duane Wilson

    Gary is proud to be performing in his 6th year of Hales A Christmas Carol. This past year has been a busy one here at Hale for Gary. He directed and stage managed Cinderella, Pinocchio (also performing in both) and Beauty and the Beast. As a stage Manager he worked on, Over the River and through the Woods and The Mousetrap. Lastly, performing as Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly and Mr.Mushnik in Little Shop of Horrors. Big thanks to Dave and Corrin Dietlein for a wonderful theater to perform in, and all my love to Brandon & Diana. GO TEAM CAMBRIAN!

    Character Name: Elwood P. Dowd

    Matthew last appeared at Hale last year in the successful Here Lies Jeremy Troy as Jeremy. Some of Matthew's other favorite roles include Reverend Hale in The Crucible, George in Of Mice and Men, Felix inThe Odd Couple, and Gabe in Dinner With Friends (Zoni Award Nomination for Best Actor, 2007). Also a director, Matthew has staged many productions including I Hate Hamlet and It Runs in the Family (Best Director award, 2005). Matthew is currently teaching English, French, and Sign Language at Dobson High School. He dedicates this performance to his father, James Lee Cary.

    Character Name: Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet

    Sharon Yormick (Aunt Ethel Chauvenet) recently played Grace Kimbrough in Never Too Late, Mrs. Duke in Happiest Millionaire, and the Senator's Wife in Born Yesterday, all at Hale Theatre. She is grateful to David & Corrin Dietlan and Gary Caswell for this latest opportunity.  Thanks also to husband Bob.  Favorite past roles include Adrienne Bliss in A Bench in the Sun, Belinda/Flavia in Noises Off Elaine Navazio in The Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Ouiser in Steel Magnolias and a long stint as Mae Duche in Murder and The Family Jewels dinner theatre.

    Character Name: Judge Omar Gaffney

    Tom Endicott (Judge Omar Gaffney) - Tom is most grateful to be performing again at the Hale Theatre with such a talented cast. Earlier this season he portrayed Mr.Gower in It’s a Wonderful Life, Dr. James Kimbrough in Never Too Late and Mayor Crane in a reprisal of that same show at the Hale Theatre in Utah. Tom would like tothank his wife Shelia, family and friends for all their support.

    Barbara McGrath

    Character Name: Veta Louise Simmons

    Performing since childhood, Barbara has most recently appeared in Hale Theatre’s Over the River …, for which she received her 5th ariZoni acting award. In addition to working at many theatres in the valley she is proud to say that Harvey is her 12th show at the Hale.  With theatre degrees from the U of A and ASU and 17 years as the Drama specialist for the Mesa Schools she is thrilled to have the time and opportunity to spend her life doing what she loves – acting and playing with her granddaughter.  Thanks Gary, Dave and Corrin for letting me come back.  Love to Doug, Meike and Aloha.

    Malcolm Hooper

    Character Name: E.J. Lofgren

    Malcolm Hooper is fairly new to the theater having done only two plays and a couple shorts at ASU West. He has enjoyed being a part of each production and is excited to be part of this talented cast here at Hale Theatre. Malcom is looking forward to all aspects of It's A Wonderful Life and hopes you enjoy the show!

    Character Name: Ruth Kelly, R.N.

    Emily Mohney (Nurse Kelly) is excited to be returning to Hale Theatre production after appearing in See How They Run! She was last seen as Caitlin O'Hare in Mesa Encore Theater's production of Over the River and Through the Woods, and as Sylvia Barrett in Big Shtick Productions’ Up the Down Staircase after a short tenure at Stephens College. She would like to thank all those who encouraged her not to give up on her love for theatre, Grandpa.

    Character Name: Peggy Chumley

    Cheryl Schaar (Peggy Chumley) is delighted to be making her first appearance at HaleCenter Theatre. Recent credits include ACT's 2011 PoeFest, Miss Prism in SouthwestShapespeare Company's production of The Importance of Being Earnest, the Duchess ofYork in Richard III, and Amelia/Abyess in The Comedy of Errors. A founding director ofInto Theatre, Cheryl also teaches Drama/Improv at Bright Beginnings School. Cheryl isrepresented by Dani's Agency. For my JG and Chris.

    Alyssa Drake

    Character Name: Myrtle Mae Simmons

    Alyssa Drake (Myrtle Mae Simmons) is delighted to make her Hale Centre Theatre debut! Over the past 3.5 years, she has directed the On the Spot comedic improv troupe for East Valley Children’s Theatre. An Arizona native and devoted fan of everything Jimmy Stewart, she is pleased to return to the stage. Her thanks to Gary Caswell and Hale Centre Theatre for the fantastic opportunity and her family and friends for their love and laughter.

    Clayton Marlowe

    Character Name: William R. Chumley, M.D.

    Clayton is excited to be returning to Hale Theatre after appearing in Charley's Aunt, John Loves Mary, and No Time For Sergeants on our stage.  He most recently appeared in Music Man at Copperstar and And Then There Were None at Desert Stages Theatre.  Clayton would like to thank Gary for the opportunity to be in this show and his family for their love and support.

    James Olsen

    Character Name: Lyman Sanderson M.D.

    James Olsen (Lyman Sanderson, M.D.) is making his theatrical debut at the Hale Theatre and would like to thank the cast & crew of this production for welcoming him into the community.  It has been over two years since James last appeared on the stage  at an official playhouse, during that time he has served as the director of the drama ministry at his church, continued revising his novel and proposing to his now fiancé Jennifer.  He thanks her and her daughter Shelby for their endless support in his artistic, sometimes insane, endeavors!
