A Musical Comedy showing February 21 - April 1

Winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Best Off-Broadway Musical in its original New York production, this hilarious international hit is loved by all. The show is a fundraiser put on by the Little Sisters of Hoboken to raise money to bury sisters accidentally poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia, Child of God. Hilarity abounds as the nuns combine their artistic abilities to put on a variety show including ballet, tap dancing, and semi-professional circus performing! New York Times raves, “Wacky and outrageous with a hysterical anything goes sense of fun!”

Hale to Hold Auditions for Nunsense

Hale Theatre will hold auditions Monday, December 5th for Nunsense playing February 21 – March 27th with performances on Monday & Tuesday Evenings only. Call backs will be on Tuesday, December 6th.  The show will be produced by David and Corrin Dietlein, directed and choreographed by Cambrian James and music directed by Lincoln Wright.  Be prepared to sing 16 bars of an up-tempo song, an accompanist will be provided. Auditions will begin at 6:00 pm.

Auditions will be held at the theater located at 50 West Page Avenue in Gilbert. Auditions are by appointment only.  You can now sign up for an audition appointment at www.haletheatrearizona.com.  Any questions can be emailed to cambrianjames@yahoo.com

CASTING:

Sister Mary Regina (Female 45- 65) She appears to be the model Mother Superior, but her bark is worse than her bite. Quick-witted; definitely knows how to get a laugh.

Sister Mary Hubert (Female 45-65) Responsible for the novices, Kind and diplomatic, yet always in competition with Sister Mary Regina.  Exudes maternal wisdom, but knows how to kick up her feet and have a good time.

Sister Robert Anne (Female 35-45) Once a childhood delinquent, loves to play jokes and is constantly challenging authority. A tough, bus-driving, street-wise nun with a heart of gold.
Sister Mary Amnesia (Female 25-40) Lost her memory, constantly in a state of confusion, spacey, incoherent, often times forgetting she is even a nun.

Sister Mary Leo (Female 18-30) A professional ballet dancer before she entered the convent Sister Mary Leo is young and impressionable. Has opportunity to demonstrate her ballet dancing skills throughout the show.

Crew Role: Director/Choroegrapher

Cambrian is excited to direct and choreograph for Hale Theatre! He has won numerous ariZoni awards including Choreography and Hair and Makeup Design. Cambrian directs and choreographs at numerous theatres throughout the Valley, including Desert Stages and Mesa Encore Theater.  Other shows that Cambrian has directed/choreographed here at Hale include Hello Dolly!, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, A Christmas Carol, Singin’ in the Rain, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Joseph . . . Dreamcoat, Lucky Stiff, The Little Mermaid, Music Man, The King & I, and April Ann. Cambrian would like to thank Dave, Corrin, Lincoln, and of course Laszlo.

Lincoln Wright

Character Name: Music Director

Lincoln is a native of Mesa, Arizona, is enthused to be back at Hale after performing in last year’s Forever Plaid.  Since 2001, he has taught the musical theatre workshop in the Scottsdale Conservatory Theatre summer program; he also serves as the company pianist for Ballet Etudes.  He has composed music for several productions, including Southwest Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, and Two Gentlemen of Verona, for which he won an AriZoni award for best original music.  Recent performances as pianist include Forbidden Broadway, Footloose and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, and he served as music director for Hale’s Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  Although the arts world beckons, he’s kept his day job as an attorney at Udall, Shumway & Lyons in Mesa, handling personal injury and nursing home abuse cases.  Much love to Mom, Dad, and the sibs for their tireless support.

Character Name: Sister Mary Regina, Mother Superior

Janis Webb (Sister Mary Regina) is thrilled to be on stage again at Hale, having last been seen in The Mousetrap as Mrs. Boyle. Previous Hale roles include Eulalie Shinn in The Music Man, and General Cartwright in Guys and Dolls. Janis has an MFA in Theater Arts from the University of California at Irvine, and acts and directs in numerous venues around the valley. Thanks to Cambrian, Lincoln, Dave and Corrin for this opportunity! Love to Dennis!

Character Name: Sister Mary Amnesia

Janelle Paris (Sister Mary Amnesia) is thrilled to be making her Hale Theatre debut! She has previously starred in various musicals throughout the valley including Oklahoma! as Laurey, A Secret Garden as Lily, Once Upon A Mattress as Lady Larken, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood as Rosa Budd.  She recieved her BFA in Dance from Arizona State University and currently teaches, performs, and choreographs around the valley. Thanks to family, friends and Kanah for the love and support!

Jodie Weiss (Sister Robert Anne) is thrilled to be making her Hale Theater debut. Jodie works professionallywith Childsplay in Tempe. Shows include; Goodnight Moon, Busytown, Seussical,Sleeping Beauty, and Junie B Jones. As well, Annie & Guys and Dolls-Starlight MusicalTheater, The Diviners, Sugar, They’re Playing Our Song and Dracula-the Musical-La Jolla Stage Company. Dames at Sea- Oregon Cabaret Theater, The White Rose,Cowgirlsl-The Old Globe Theater. Jodie has two amazing boys and a supportive husband,who keep her happy and grateful !

Amanda Lochmiller (Sister Mary Leo) is delighted to making her Hale Theatre debut! Amanda went to theUniversity of Arizona, earning a BFA in Dance. Locally, she has performed with Arizona Broadway Theatre,42nd Street, and Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, Chicago. Some of her favorite shows include Pippin and ThePajama Game with Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre in North Idaho. Off the stage, she works as a teacher atDesert Mountain High School.

Melissa VanSlyke (Sister Mary Hubert) is delighted to be making her debut at the HaleTheatre! Some of her favorite roles have been Domina in A Funny Thing Happenedon the Way to the Forum , Rona in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee ,and Martha in The Secret Garden.
